Our mission

MASI is a community of UMD students working to reduce serious risks from advanced AI.

Our fellowship introduces students to the central arguments, open questions, and current work in AI safety and security. Fellows meet regularly in small groups to read, discuss, and debate how advanced AI systems could fail and what technical, policy, and security work could reduce those risks.

We also host talks, workshops, and community events where students can meet others who care about these problems, build relevant skills, and find concrete ways to contribute. Students from every major and level of experience are welcome.
